Theoutside-air temperature sensor is located behind the front bumper, held in place by a bracket near the driver's side of the A/C condenser. If the connections look good and the air-flow over the sensor is OK, you probably need to replace the sensor (if I recall correctly, they're under $20 from a number of the forum sponsors). ---Mullard EL34.
. #18. As i said above, if you have a digital clock on the dash cluster, you have a combined oil level/temp sensor in the sump. If its an analog clock, it will use the old single wire analog sensor on the front of the block. It takes a good 10+ miles of driving to get the oil temperature up to 90c.

Hi I have an A4 B8 2009. I have changed thermostat and sensor and still, my thermostat does not rise. On long runs, it might rise to 60/65 but very rarely. It takes an age for warm air to come in the heater (maybe 15-20 miles) and when it finally does come, it's nowhere near as hot as it should be even when set to HI.
Thedealer changed the coolant temperature sensor G62 which is back left of the engine above the CAT (not the best design in a hot area!). This made the gauge itself work better (sometimes before it stopped working). The thermostat unit described above was then changed which did cure the temperature fluctuation issue.
TheOSA sensor must be mounted in the shade and never above building windows, doors, vents or dampers. Sensors should not be placed in direct sunlight as temperature readings can be altered by as much as +30%. The ideal shaded location in the Northern Hemisphere is on the north side of the building. Note that in the Southern
